About

Mark Lopez, a native of Novi, Michigan, received a Bachelor of Music degree from Western Michigan University and a Master of Music - Performance degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  He received the Kalamazoo Arts Council’s Emerging Artist Grant and was selected to attend the 20th annual Leigh Howard Stevens International Marimba Seminar in Asbury Park, New Jersey.  Mark was the runner-up in the Bruce Eckstrand Memorial Graduate Performance Competition at the University of Colorado, and in 2003, traveled to France to study privately with marimbist Eric Sammut of the Conservatoire de Paris.

Mark has studied with Douglas Walter, Judy Moonert, She-e Wu, Gordon Stout, Leigh Howard Stevens and Thomas Starr.    Currently, he is active as a performer, arranger, and educator in West Michigan, as an accompanist and adjunct faculty member for the Hope College Department of Dance and as Professor of Percussion for the Hope College Department of Music in Holland, Michigan.  Mark is an adjudicator for USBands, Scholastic Marching Bands, and the Michigan Competing Band Association, and from 2011 to 2017 he was the Frontline Coordinator for the Legends Drum and Bugle Corps from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
